Growing Old
( read slowly...this is one of my favorites!)
The days grow shorter, the nights grow longer;
The headstones thicken along the way;
And life grows sadder, but love grwos stronger
For those who walk with us day by day.
The tear comes quicker, the laugh comes slower;
The courage is lesser to do and dare;
And the tide of joy in the heart falls lower,
And seldom covers the reefs of care.
But all true things in the world seem truer,
And the better things of earth seem best,
And friends are dearer as friends are fewer,
And love is all as our sun dips west. Then let us clasp hands as we walk together,
And let us speak softly in low, sweet tone,
For no man knows on the morrow wheather
We two pass on- or but one alone.

Tree's Lament
An Old Tree's Lament
It whispers through my greatest prize
That once used to look so fine
I used to be the one to rise
above those pathetic pines.
I still look down upon them
They smile up at me instead
Cause their lives are flourishing
While mine is almost dead.
I cannot comprehend
Why time is so cruel to me
I've seen everything from where I stand-
A little boy skin his knee...
A dieing solider wanting to feel Mama's hand
My once strong limbs
Have given shade to many a weary man
While the small ones hide up in me
Trying to see who can.
I have never left this spot
For many years not at all!
But here my trunk it starts to rot
As my leaves begin to fall.
I thought I was enormous
My roots were firm and strong
Smaller trees were nothing compared to my awesomeness
Everything about them was wrong!
My life is ending hastily...
Those other trees will scorn
When they see my empty self
Standing lonely and so worn...

Be The Best of What Ever You Are!
If you can't be a pine on the top of the hill,
Be a scrub in the valley-but be
The best little scrub by the sid eof the rill;
Be a bush if you can't be a tree.
If you can't be a bush by a bit of the grass,
And some highway happier make;
If you can't be a muskie then just be a bass-
But the liveliest bass in the lake!
We can't all be captians, we've got to be crew,
There's something for all of us here,
There's big ork to do, and there's lesser to do,
And the task you must do is near.
If you can't be a highway then just be a trail,
If you can' be the sun be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail-
Be the best of whatever you are!

Little Flower...
Little Flower...
Little flower of the field
How long will beauty be?
Your perfect all about
Cannot we also see?
You dance there in the sunlight
You laugh gaily witt the breeze
Oh! Such a sight for eyes weary for to see
Leaves fall all about, wanting to consume
But still you can be found
By your sweet perfume
Little flower of the field
How long will it take for them to see?
Oh! How long will beauty be?

~A Wild Night~ by- CSL
I am standing on the edge
Into the blackness I peer
Wild winds twirl about. Wanting me to fear.
I take a step closer
Gripping tight the rail
My ears strain past the roar to hear a distant wail
Waves are crashing taller
Foundation begins to quake
My heart begins to pound...
So dreamlike, maybe i'm not quite awake
I need to turn back
Make it to the safty of home
But the wind haughtingly calls my name
Trying to sound so tame
Ha! A liar all the same
Salt air is so that i taste it on my tongue
Why can't I seem to part away...
Away from the edge , the blackness the crashing
And the wild wind that loves to play
All i know is i better leave before it is too late...
After all...this could be my fate.
